150 up for Iwan Murray!
In last night’s victory at Alfreton Town, Iwan Murray became just the eighth Chester FC player to make 150 appearances for the Blues since reformation!
The midfielder joins Craig Mahon, Declan Weeks, Kevin Roberts, George Horan, George Glendon, Anthony Dudley and Harrison Burke in an elite club.
Of the eight, Murray and Burke both sit proudly as two of our own to come through the Academy and reach this milestone.
From Bodelwyddan, Iwan made his senior debut in September 2018 after impressing in the Youth Team. After an injury in the warm-up to Scott Burton prior to the Kidderminster game, Murray stepped in and grabbed his chance with both hands – winning a penalty within 10 minutes to set the Blues on their way to a 3-1 victory on an electric night at the Deva.
The Welshman scored three times in 10 starts, before moving on to link up with Calum McIntyre at Runcorn Linnets in 2020, having a hugely successful time at the Apec Taxis Stadium, scoring 25 goals in 61 appearances.
The Blues boss was quick to bring Iwan back to CH1 with him in the summer of 2022, and Iwan has been a hugely reliable figure in the midfield unit from the moment he returned.
Murray made his 100th appearance in August last year, coincidentally also at Alfreton Town, and was a key figure as the Seals reached the Promotion Final last term.
Iwan stepped up on the biggest of occasions, scoring the opening goal in our Play-Off win over Buxton at the Deva earlier this year, setting the scene for one of our most memorable nights in recent times down CH1.
He continues to impress, he continues to improve, and his desire on the football pitch is why he is loved by the Chester FC faithful.
Iwan is an asset to the club both on and off the field, and an Academy success story we are very, very proud of.
Congratulations, Iwan!
