Mike Barrow to depart Chester FC after nine years

Chester FC Groundsman Mike Barrow will depart the club at the end of July to take up a new opportunity at a Premier League side.

A boyhood Chester supporter, ‘Baz’ has worked tirelessly in his role since his appointment in 2015 – consistently producing high-quality pitches season after season and defying treacherous weather to keep match postponements down to a minimum.

Mike moves on with our best wishes as he pursues an exciting opportunity higher up the footballing pyramid, with his last game as Groundsman set to be against Altrincham on Saturday 27th July at the Deva.

The club will be advertising for the role in due course.

Vice-Chair Jim Green said: “On behalf of everyone at Chester FC, we would like to thank Mike for the outstanding dedication and service he has given over the past nine years.

“The playing surface at the Deva is regarded among the best in non-league football, which is down to Mike’s expertise and hard work.

“He is a loyal Chester fan and I know how much pride he took in working for his club, but he has been presented with a tremendous opportunity to further his career.

“Mike is a hugely popular figure around the club and we will miss him, but I’m sure he’s looking forward to returning to the stands with his family and supporting the team.”

Thank you and all the very best, Baz!
