CFCW Report: Chester 1-0 Ellesmere Port Town
Chester left it late once again to secure back-to-back home wins, as Ciara Lee scored a dramatic 92nd minute winner at the Deva.
Kalvin Williams’ side were coming into the game having won one, drawn one, and lost one in their opening three league fixtures. The first half saw little opportunities of note, a couple of Blues shots were comfortably held by the Ellesmere Port Town goalkeeper.
Chester were getting closer though as the second half progressed. First, Captain Kim Sands fired just wide before Emma Gray and then Erin Parr went close.
Then, the Seals hit the woodwork three times in the space of ten minutes. Rach Lloyd clipped the crossbar with a long range free kick on 70 minutes, before Parr also hit the bar a matter of moments later.
It felt like it wasn’t to be on the night, as then Lloyd tried her luck again – this time striking the post.
But the youthful Seals dug deep and for the second home game in a row won it in stoppage time. Maddie Sconce played a fantastic ball in behind the defence, and Lee showed great composure to nip in and poke the ball beyond the onrushing keeper to spark frantic scenes down CH1.
