Match Report: Chester 3-1 Warrington Town

Goals from Tom Peers, Taelor O’Kane and a screamer from Dan Mooney secured all three points for the Seals at the Deva Stadium.

Warrington took the lead early on through Mikey O’Neill’s header, but Calum McIntyre’s bounced back to close the gap to the top of the National League North.

The Blues almost make an ideal start at the Deva Stadium when Declan Weeks struck with power from long-range but his effort sailed over the crossbar.

Paul Carden’s side took an early lead in the 12th minute though, as Aaron James rose the highest from a well-delivered corner to nod past Jimmy Storer.

Joe Rodwell-Grant almost doubled the visitors’ lead quickly after, but his dangerous effort was kept out in acrobatic fashion by Storer.

The Seals were handed a golden opportunity to equalise when Jake Alsopp pointed to the penalty spot after Dan Mooney was hit by a late challenge inside the box.

Peers stepped up and slotted a low finish underneath Dan Atherton to draw the scores level and to claim his 17th league goal of the campaign.

Jack Lambert performed with confidence throughout the first period and he almost grabbed the Seals’ second shortly after, as the midfielder picked up the ball and smashed a low shot that produced a strong save by Atherton.

A fairly even contest down CH1 was reflected by the scoreline at the break, but both Nathan Woodthorpe and Tom Peers were booked as the period came to an end.

Weeks had the first attempt after the interval but his floated effort was held by Atherton in comfortable fashion.

Harrison Burke caused panic in the Yellows’ back line just after the hour mark with a mazy run before he fed Peers but the number seven was crowded inside the box.

The away side almost hit Calum McIntyre’s men were almost hit on the break shortly after but Matty McDonald’s drilled strike was stopped by Storer.

Warrington’s resistance was broken with 13 minutes left on the clock, as a dangerous Weeks corner bounced in the box before it fell to Taelor O’Kane who finished with composure to claim a crucial lead.

Two became three for the Blues in remarkable fashion, as Dan Mooney capitalised on a poor pass from Atherton and unleashed a spectacular effort from around 50 yards out that bounced and nestled in the bottom corner.

A huge moment at the Deva Stadium that secured all three points as the Seals had enough quality to defy a valiant effort from Warrington.

Weeks struck a low effort from distance deep into stoppage time but the ball was pushed away by the keeper before Jake Allsopp blew his whistle to end the contest.

A huge win for Chester, who are back at the Deva Stadium on Saturday to face Leamington.
