CFCW Report: FC St Helens 2-1 Chester
Chester FC Women were narrowly defeated yesterday at second placed FC St Helens.
Following a close first half ending goalless, but did see Sophia O’Neill have a goal disallowed, the second half came to life in the space of three minutes late on.
St Helens took the lead with a close range finish on 78 minutes, before the Blues replied instantly. Maddie Sconce’s pass over the top found O’Neill who was fouled in the box.
Top scorer Emma Gray stepped up and fired home the spot kick. Nevertheless, just two minutes later the hosts attacked from the restart and took advantage of a loose ball to fire home the winner on 81 minutes.
Chester remain fifth in the table but will be looking to leapfrog fourth placed Runcorn Linnets when they face off at the Deva on Sunday.
