An update on the pitch

Chester FC are delighted to welcome supporters back to the Deva Stadium tomorrow afternoon for our first home fixture of the 2025/26 pre-season campaign, as we host Salford City.

As ever, we’ve worked hard to ensure the Deva is ready to provide a safe and enjoyable matchday experience. One major focus during the off-season has been our playing surface.

We’re pleased with the progress made on the grass, having undertaken extensive renovation work, which included a much-needed upgrade to our sprinkler system – replacing the original setup that had been in place since the stadium opened 33 years ago.

While the overall condition of the pitch is very encouraging, we want to be transparent with supporters: due to some ongoing issues with the installation of the new sprinkler system, certain areas of the pitch have not developed as quickly as others. These sections are still being worked on to ensure the highest possible standard is achieved.

Working closely alongside our pitch contractors Greener Grounds, the pitch will be in good condition for tomorrow’s fixture, and we thank fans for their understanding and continued support as we complete these improvements. We expect further progress to be made ahead of our next home friendly against Carlisle United and in time for the National League North season opener on 9th August.

With the return of supporters, new signings in the squad, and continued progress both on and off the pitch, there’s a real sense of momentum building at Chester FC, and we can’t wait to welcome you back to the Deva.
