Report: Chester FC U19 2-1 York City U19

Chester FC U19 overcame a resilient York City side at the KGV Sports Hub to make it back-to-back wins in the National League U19 Alliance.

The visitors had the chance to take the lead in the first half from the spot, but were denied by a great save.

The Seals opened the scoring in the 51st minute, before the Minstermen levelled seven minutes later through a composed finish from the visiting striker.

The lively start to the second half continued as Chester got themselves back in front in the 62nd minute, courtesy of a powerful strike from the edge of the box.

Despite York’s efforts for a late equaliser, and numerous chances on the break for Chester, the hosts held on for three crucial points.

The U19s remain in fourth, but have closed the gap on third placed Blyth Spartans to two points with two games in hand.

League action returns next Wednesday with a trip to AFC Fylde, before a quarter-final cup tie against Hartlepool United the following week.

Chester and York City will meet again at the end of February in North Yorkshire.
