Welcome to Chester FC, Tom Davies!
Chester FC are delighted to announce the signing of experienced defender Tom Davies on loan from National League South club Salisbury FC until the end of the season.
The 33-year-old arrives at the Deva Stadium with a backlog of experience, the vast majority of which has been played at EFL level.
After spells in the youth setups at both Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers, Davies broke through at FC United of Manchester, where his performances earned him a move to Fleetwood Town in 2014.
The defender was sent on a number of loan spells whilst on the Fylde Coast, including stints at Alfreton Town, Lincoln City, and Southport, before a permanent switch to Accrington Stanley in the summer of 2015.
“Tom’s career speaks for itself. First and foremost, he is a leader, and I think his experience and personality will lift the group the way Michael Kelly’s has”
His time in Lancashire was followed by a permanent move to Portsmouth in 2016, before spells at Coventry City, Bristol Rovers, and Barrow.
Tom’s longest stretch at a club came with Tranmere Rovers between 2021-25, where he featured over 100 times and was a mainstay in League Two, a division in which he has made 200 appearances in total, alongside over 40 in League One for Bristol Rovers and Coventry.
On his newest arrival, Calum McIntyre said: “I’ve talked a lot about recruitment recently and have done my best to share our plans with supporters. It’s fair to say that stuff has had to change. The nature of loan recalls and injuries have meant we have had to redirect ourselves at times, and this hasn’t been easy.
“Since the start of January, we have lost three defenders that were in our plans for reasons beyond our control as well as moved two on ourselves. This has meant we have had to add in this area more than we might have envisaged.
“Tom’s career speaks for itself. First and foremost, he is a leader, and I think his experience and personality will lift the group the way Michael Kelly’s has. At the same time, he is an aerially dominant central defender, which is an area we have struggled in throughout the season.
“Recruitment is hugely important at this level but is immensely complicated. It is desperately important that the supporters are made aware of the challenges and constraints that are involved in our recruitment ahead of the next manager’s appointment to give the supporters the best understanding of what the manager is trying to do and what is achievable.”
Welcome to Chester FC, Tom!
