    ChesterFC.com takes a look back at the events of the Blues’ 2018/19 National League North campaign – month-by-month!

    February 2019

    Kidderminster 4-1 Chester – It was yet another defeat for the Blues following a two week break. The returning Akwasi Asante opened the scoring with yet another goal, but two goals in each half for the hosts saw them victorious in Mark Yates’ first game in charge.

    Nantwich 1-0 Chester – The Blues then crashed out of the Cheshire Senior Cup, but it was an improved performance and positives to be taken back into the league. George Green was dismissed in the first half for a harsh straight red card – and Chester battled hard and created chances with a man disadvantage. However, an injury time winner saw the eventual Cup winners advance.

    Striker Deane Smalley left the club the following day – and went on to link up with his brother Dom at Hyde United for the remainder of the campaign.

    The next game was a visit from Boston United, on the annual Junior Blues Takeover Day. It felt like a very positive day to be at the club and showcased the reason we are where we are – reforming from the ashes back in 2010. The football wasn’t bad either!

    Chester 4-1 Boston United – A nervy start by the Blues, but this performance was clinical and convincing. First half goals from Akwasi Asante and Anthony Dudley put them firmly in control. Craig Mahon added a third before former Blue Ben Davies pulled one back. However, 60 seconds later a fourth was added when George Waring nodded home his maiden Chester goal.

    Bradford (Park Avenue) 2-0 Chester – A defeat which was shrouded with some real controversy. Jake Beesley’s goal inside the first 20 seconds caused confusion amongst both sets of fans, and – despite having numerous chances – Chester couldn’t find their way back into this one. Beesley added a second and the home side were victorious.

    Chester 2-0 Blyth Spartans ­– Chester made it back to back home wins with Tuesday night delight against Blyth Spartans. The first half passed without real incident, before a moment of quality from Brad Jackson – a defence splitting pass for Mahon to score – changed the course of the game. Waring added a second and made the trip to Altrincham to kick off March a fascinating one.
