REVIEW OF THE SEASON | March 2019

    ChesterFC.com takes a look back at the events of the Blues’ 2018/19 National League North campaign – month-by-month!

    Altrincham 4-0 Chester – Another away day loss for the Blues saw them lose ground in the race for the top seven. Chester were more than a match for their high scoring opponents for an hour of this one – but Scott Burton’s red card dramatically swung the course of the tie. Four goals in half an hour made it a comfortable win for Phil Parkinson’s side.

    Community Day was the next exciting home game on the agenda for the Blues, once again the club and its Community Trust showing the strength of its roots as over 500 local schools and clubs packed into the South Stand for the Leamington game.

    Just prior to this, one of our own Nathan Brown left the club. Gametime had been limited for the youngster in the season, but he’d made some incredible memories – including winning the 2017/18 goal of the season award.

    Chester 1-1 Leamington – Two points dropped by the Blues – drawing after being in a very strong position. Ben McKenna slotted home his first goal for the club just after the break, and then Jordan Murphy was sent off for the Brakes. But Chester couldn’t see it out, and Ahmed Obeng scored a late equaliser.

    A postponement for the Darlington game on the 16th saw the Blues end up taking a big break in action. But there was still exciting news afoot.

    The open meeting from Chester FC and the Community Trust saw ambitious plans for the new £1.6 million KGV Sports Hub in Blacon revealed to the fans.

    Darlington 0-1 Chester – A fantastic win which ensured the Play-Off dream remained alive – as the North East ghosts were put to rest. Simon Grand’s header from a superbly worked set piece free kick was followed by a solid display of defending and organisation to seal the three points.

    Chester 0-0 Chorley – Going into April the top seven quest remained on with a point against the league leaders Chorley. The visitors showed their strength at the back but Chester were more than a match – and could have won the game on another day.

    It set up an exciting April!
