    ChesterFC.com takes a look back at the events of the Blues’ 2018/19 National League North campaign – month-by-month!

    The final month of the season got underway with some good news off the field. CFU Chair Dave Harrington Wright gives up his hours to work hard for the football club and was deservedly named National League North Volunteer of the Month.

    Nuneaton Borough 2-3 Chester – An afternoon of real drama, as the Blues once against stayed alive in the play off hunt with an injury time winner; which in the process relegated Nuneaton. They led through Akwasi Asante’s fourth minute strike – and then again through the head of Danny Livesey. Nevertheless, the bottom side pegged them back twice – before Livesey rose highest once again to head home the winner late on.

    Chester 0-6 Stockport – The Blues came crashing back down to earth with a bump just a few days later. Jim Gannon’s side were on top form to ease to the top of the league with six goals at the Swansway.

    After the despair of such a heavy defeat at a crucial point of the season – the Under 18’s restored some positivity the following night as they – ironically – beat Stockport’s Under 18’s 6-0 to clinch the National League Alliance Title.

    Before the York game, there was a new face amongst the ranks as Jamal Crawford joined following his release from FC United.

    Chester 2-2 York City – A much changed Blues team fought back twice to share the spoils with the Minstermen on MBNA Day at the Deva. A Sean Newton Own Goal and a George Waring strike gained Bern and Jonno’s side a point.

    Ashton United 0-3 Chester – The Blues completed a third successive away win with a clinical and convincing victory on the Good Friday. Iwan Murray fired home a scorcher in the Manchester sun – before headers from Danny Livesey and George Waring sealed it.

    Chester 0-0 Brackley Town – It was probably all over after Stockport, but a goalless draw against Brackley mathematically confirmed Chester’s stay in the National League North next season. Shane Byrne blazed over a penalty in the first half, and the Blues piled on the pressure late on but could only muster a draw.

    Alfreton Town 2-2 Chester – The season ended in entertaining fashion with a score draw at the Impact Arena. Asante opened the scoring as the Blues clever set piece routine worked a treat once again. Despite having a man sent off, Alfreton drew level through Josh Wilde – and the left back scored a screamer to make it 2-2 after George Waring had initially headed the Blues back in front.

    A 9th place finish for Chester FC – a season of highs, lows, thrills, spills and plenty of talking points. Here’s to the next one. Up the Seals!
