A message of thanks on behalf of the board of Chester Football Club…
To have come so close to achieving our target and fall short together at final hurdle hurts, and we will all be feeling that pain today.
There is a thin line between glory and defeat in playoff campaigns, and on this occasion, we congratulate Scunthorpe United on their victory and promotion to the National League.
While we are disappointed, we are also incredibly proud of our football club. Proud of our manager and backroom team, proud of our players, and proud of our incredible supporters.
You have backed the team in tremendous numbers every week, helping them through the difficult moments, recognising this is a special group of players that has left everything they had on the pitch this season.
Over the course of these eight months, there have been many highs, but we also need to remember there were tough periods too. There is huge resolve and character at our football club, and it is only through standing together that we will keep progressing. That atmosphere and connection between fans and players during the run-in will live long in the memory.
We wish to thank Calum McIntyre, Colin Woodthorpe, Mike Allcock, Neil Ebbrell, Luke Davies and Mick McLoughlin for their exceptional contribution this season, and thank the playing squad for their commitment and dedication, as well as acknowledging the support and sacrifices of your families and friends. You have all given us so many great memories across the campaign.
Our commitment to securing promotion from the National League North does not waver, and we believe the progress we continue to make on and off the pitch will ensure we can challenge again next season. We are in a division that has huge demands over 46 games and with only two promotion places, and we will be up against full-time outfits with greater resources once more, but we must all embrace the unique opportunities we have as a fan-owned club, remain united when times are tough, and believe we can do it together.
Thank you again for your unbelievable support.
