Bala Town 1-3 Chester

Chester remain unbeaten in pre-season with a 3-1 win over Welsh Premier League side Bala Town.

Chester looked the brighter side in the opening minutes – and looked to get a foothold on the game early on. James Akintunde breezed past the Lakesiders defence to force Craig Vernon into a save, before his strike partner Nyal Bell saw his goal bound header cleared off the line.

After a dominant spell by the Blues, Bell opened the scoring twenty minutes in. The 20-year old striker pounced on a mistake by Bala keeper Vernon, before easing his way towards the vacant goal line to covert his second goal of the pre-season campaign.

Colin Caton’s side found the equaliser with moments left before the interval through Chris Venables. The Lakesiders’ looked bright going into the break, and forced a corner following a bright, darting run by Evan Horwood on the left. Former Blue Horwood took the corner, which was turned behind Alex Lynch by Venables.

Jon McCarthy made eleven changes to the starting line-up for the second half, as is standard procedure during the Blues pre-season games.

Matty Waters made a return to the side, while Harry White started up front with youth player Lloyd Marsh-Hughes – who put Chester back in front on the hour mark.

Some brilliant movement in midfield by Wade Joyce allowed him to feed a perfect pass through Bala’s defence for Marsh-Hughes. The 16-year old academy player guided his composed finish over Vernon, after scoring against Dundee United during the Youth Tour last weekend.

Chester looked to score yet another, and continued to cause problems. Liam Davies stung the palms of the Lakesiders’ keeper, with Lucas Dawson seeing his effort hit the upright from 25 yards out.

Harry White added to his pre-season goals tally, scoring a third for the Blues with ten minutes remaining. Marsh-Hughes orchestrated the move, feeding a through ball for White to coolly finish past Vernon and make it three in pre-season.
