Blues sign Jordan Hunter from Gateshead!

Chester FC are delighted to announce the signing of Jordan Hunter from National League side Gateshead!

The 24-year-old has penned a one-year deal at the Deva Stadium to become our sixth new face of the summer, subject to FA and National League approval.

Hunter joined Gateshead after a four-year stint with neighbours South Shields, where he was an integral part of the squad that won the Northern Premier Division title in the 2022/23 season.

His performances earned him a National League move and in 25 appearances last campaign he scored three goals and contributed one assist.

The full-back also has experience in the National League North as he re-joined the Mariners on loan for the second half of last season.

The Seals’ newest recruit came through the youth academy at Liverpool, before swapping the North West for the North East by joining Sunderland’s youth setup.

The North East has been his home since 2018, but he’s returned to the North West to join Calum McIntyre’s squad in time for the start of pre-season.

Despite predominantly being a right-sided full-back, Hunter is equally adept as a defensive midfielder. This versatility makes him an invaluable addition.

The Blues boss said: “This is a really important signing for us. Jordan is a really attacking full-back who possesses real quality and will give a real outlet in a wide position.

“A change in his circumstances has meant a move back home to the North West, which allows us to secure his services for the season ahead. Jordan was well thought of at Gateshead in the division above but has impressed at this level in a loan spell as well as earning promotion from the division below.

“His performances in earning South Shields’ their promotion to this level are what caught the attention of Gateshead – and he is the perfect age profile and is yet another of our signings with a promotion on their CV.

“I remain keen to add two more players to the group.

“Everyone wants to add goals but we have to be realistic around what we can do in that department with the funds available. We are tens of thousands of pounds away from being anywhere near some of the forwards in the division above so have to be really flexible in the market as and when things develop.

“I also want to add a significantly experienced player in another position that I feel will strengthen the group on the whole with their experience and leadership qualities. These are our two targets and we are keen to secure them.

“Our success in doing this is directly linked to what we can do financially such as the continued success of the Boost The Budget scheme alongside the club’s other revenue streams.

“I thank our supporters for their continued efforts in giving us the best opportunity we can to succeed during the season ahead.”

    Welcome to CH1, Jordan!
