BREAKING | Blues sign goalkeeper Russ Griffiths

    Chester Football Club can this evening officially confirm the arrival of goalkeeper Russell Griffiths following a successful trial period.

    The stopper has impressed in games against Wigan Athletic, Newquay AFC and Dulwich Hamlet – including saving a 7th minute penalty in the game down in the South West.

    Blues Joint Bosses Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley moved quickly to offer the former AFC Fylde keeper a one-year deal.

    The 23-year-old spent the 2018-19 campaign with the Coasters, who reached the National League Play-Off Final and won the Buildbase FA Trophy.

    Griffiths began has career at Everton and had loan spells at Northwich Victoria, FC Halfax, Cheltenham Town and then Motherwell. His move to Scotland was then made permanent for the 2017/18 season.

    Blues Joint Boss Anthony Johnson said: “Russ has trained with us since day one of pre-season alongside Theo and another couple of trialists.

    “His 6’4 frame made him stand out above the other trialists but it’s his agility and command of area that has impressed us so much.

    “Russ has settled into the group really well and we believe with his experiences at higher levels he’ll be fantastic signing for us.”
