Buxton 1-4 Chester

It was a very good Friday for Chester as goals from Declan Weeks, Harrison Burke, Adam Thomas and Tom Peers sealed a crucial three points for Calum McIntyre’s men.

In what was arguably the most accomplished performance of the season, a dominant second half saw the Seals thrash Buxton in Derbyshire.

Despite this, it was the home side who came flying out of the traps and they opened the scoring with not even 90 seconds on the clock. Buxton forward Ben Andreucci, who is on loan from Bolton Wanderers, pounced on a loose touch by Kieran Burton. He composed himself before firing a low, driven effort which flew past the despairing hand of Wyll Stanway.

The Bucks’ lead was short lived as the Yellows responded almost instantly.  Joel Taylor raced clear on the left hand side and drilled a low and dangerous cross into the six yard box which was begging for a Yellow shirt to connect.

Tom Peers got the initial contact and his touch fell perfectly into the path of Declan Weeks, who was captaining the side in Glendon’s absence. The skipper was all of five yards out and was perfectly placed to restore parity.  Reaffirming the old adage that you’re at your most vulnerable when you’ve just scored.

Andreucci was oozing with confidence and he almost restored the Buxton lead ten minutes later but his effort was blazed over the bar

The remainder of the first half saw Chester dominate proceedings. The Seals had a lot of joy down both flanks with the width of the two wing backs, Taylor and Adam Thomas, causing the home defence several issues.

Buxton’s Adam Livingstone nearly diverted the ball into his own net following another cross from Thomas, after referee Lewis Dawson played a good advantage.

The second half brought more of the same as Chester looked to capitalise on their domination.

And just shy of the hour mark they took the lead through an unlikely scorer. That right hand side continued to be a fruitful avenue for the Seals as Thomas fired the ball into the box for what seemed like the umpteenth time. The ball was cleared but only as far as the onrushing Burke who took the ball in his stride and expertly dispatched the ball past the ‘keeper, a finish a striker would have been proud of.

McIntrye’s side had all the momentum and they doubled their advantage a few minutes later in unbelievable fashion. Adam Thomas, who covered every blade of grass, capped off his superb individual display with a goal worthy of winning any game.  The ball sat up invitingly and Thomas did not hesitate, connecting sweetly to volley home Chester’s third.

The cherry was placed on top of the cake by Tom Peers who scored Chester’s fourth in fortuitous fashion. That right hand side again paid dividends as our number seven drifted over to the right flank. Peers briefly looked up and clipped a cross to the back post and the ball floated over the head of Petrovic who could only watch.

Performances don’t get much better than that and Chester will be looking to carry this momentum into Easter Monday as we host Alfreton Town.
