CFCW Report: Chester 1-3 Poulton Vics
Chester FC Women’s six match winning run was halted yesterday at the Deva by league leaders Poulton Vics.
The visitors had won all seven of their opening league matches coming into this one, and maintained their three point lead at the top with victory in front of a healthy crowd of 213 down CH1.
In a goalless first half, it was Kalvin Williams’ side that went closest, as Rach Lloyd’s free kick from range clipped the crossbar on the way over.
At the other end Poulton had a great opportunity just inside the box but their forward blazed over.
The away team got their noses in front on 54 minutes though, as a ball over the top was pounced upon by a forward who beat Sophie Foster to it and found the net.
Chester’s task got even harder just after the hour mark when they were reduced to ten, as Chenai Lefebvre was harshly sent off for a second bookable offence.
A matter of moments later, Poulton doubled their advantage to put the game beyond the Blues. Two became three on 73 minutes, an excellent strike from the edge of the box was curled home.
But the Seals did keep on battling and got a consolation late on, Ciara Lee finding the net from 20 yards for her fifth of the season – now level with Lucy Adderley and Emma Gray as joint top scorers.
Next up for Chester, a trip to FC St Helens on Sunday aiming to reach the First Round of the Women’s FA Cup for the very first time.
