CFCW Report: Chester 2-1 Wirral Phoenix

Chester FC Women were victorious in the Cheshire Cup yesterday with a victory over league rivals Wirral Phoenix.

The two sides shared the spoils in the league back in August, but on this occasion the Blues ran out as winners.

It was a quiet start at the Deva, with Ash Bullock having the first chance which was saved.

Moments later though the breakthrough arrived in stunning fashion. Lucy Adderley’s 35 yard free kick rifled into the top corner of the net, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

And one quickly became two on 36 minutes when Chenai Lefebvre pounced on a misplaced pass and went through on goal, keeping her composure and calmly slotting home.

The second half was equally cagey and without many chances, but the impressive Chloe Davis almost made it three late on when she cut inside after a mazy run and shot just over the crossbar.

Wirral pulled one back deep into stoppage time as an inswinging corner was poked home at the near post, but Kalvin Williams’ side held on for the victory to advance.
