CFCW Report: Chester 4-1 Runcorn Linnets

Chester FC Women picked up an important three points in their quest to finish in the top four by beating Runcorn Linnets at the Deva Stadium.

The Blues made an encouraging start and were then rewarded with the opener on 25 minutes as Sophia O’Neill’s corner was bravely headed in by Ciara Lee at the near post.

Chester continued to grow in confidence and doubled their lead just before the break – O’Neill again the provider – squaring across the box for top scorer and Captain Emma Gray to tap in.

Victory looked to be assured with less than 20 minutes to play as substitute Erin Parr raced clear and calmly slotted the ball low to the keeper’s left and into the back of the net to make it three.

Runcorn, who now only sit three points ahead of the Seals following this result, looked to muster a comeback but Vienna Doherty in the Chester goal made a fantastic save from a free kick that looked destined for the back of the net.

However the visitors did get back into it with a penalty moments after to make the score 3-1.

But it was the Seals who completed the scoring in stoppage time with O’Neill involved again and Parr raced clear and finished to complete her brace and round off an excellent 4-1 victory.
