CFCW Report: Wirral Phoenix 2-2 Chester

Chester FC Women maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a hard fought draw at Wirral Phoenix last night.

Kalvin Williams’ side made a bright start to the game, against a Wirral side who put nine past Macclesfield on the opening day, and raced into a two goal lead.

On seven minutes, Maddie Sconce’s ball was met by Emily Jones who made no mistake for her second goal of the season.

Emma Gray would then make it two in two for her personal tally as well on 28 minutes to double the Blues’ lead, with defender Sconce again providing the assist.

Wirral pulled one back just moments later as Becky Tebb found the bottom corner, and Tebb then made it a brace just ten minutes after the interval to level the scores in Ellesmere Port.

Chester though had their chances to restore the lead and make it two wins out of two, with Lucy Adderley desperately unlucky to see her free kick from distance come back off the post.

The opposing ‘keeper had to make two saves towards the end from Gray and Lily Tankard, as the spoils were shared. Chester head to Wigan for their third game of the campaign on Sunday.
