Chester FC Announces West Stand Gym Development in Partnership with OPH
Chester Football Club is excited to confirm that work has begun to transform the interior of the West Stand into a state-of-the-art gym facility, in partnership with local health and fitness specialists Optimal Performance & Health (OPH).
The sub-lease has been formally agreed with Cheshire West and Chester Council, with design and fit-out plans being finalised alongside Bell Developments, with the aim of opening the gym in early 2026.
The project will repurpose the previously condemned ‘corporate box’ behind the away fans in the West Stand, as well as the Groundsman’s shed and office.
Chester FC General Manager Albert Davies said: “This is an exciting moment for the club, and something we’ve been planning for several months now.
“One of our proudest achievements in recent years is that the Deva Stadium has become a hub of activity throughout the week – not just on matchdays – and is bringing in valuable revenue to the club.
“Working with OPH not only builds on this success but also restores a part of the stadium that has been unused since our reformation due to cost constraints.
“We’re thrilled to see these plans taking shape and to benefit from OPH’s enthusiasm for creating a space that is inclusive and welcoming to the entire community.”
Optimal Performance & Health, a Chester-based business founded seven years ago, focuses on helping people move better, feel healthier, and perform at their best—whether in everyday life, sport, or work.
Ash Armstrong, the Founder of OPH, said: “Having lived and worked in Chester my entire career, this partnership with Chester FC is a very proud moment.
“It is an opportunity to bring something positive to the local community and breathe new life into a part of the stadium that has been unused for years.
“We’re excited to work with Chester FC on creating a gym that is inclusive, energising, and truly connected to the Chester community.
“As someone who coaches hundreds of local people, it’s incredibly rewarding to be part of a project that benefits the city and its residents.”
We look forward to sharing further updates on this development in the coming weeks and months!
