Club Captain Declan Weeks signs new contract at the Deva!

Chester FC are delighted to announce that club captain Declan Weeks has signed a new deal to keep him at the Deva Stadium until the summer of 2027!

Our second-highest all-time appearance maker, the midfielder has shown his brilliance on a consistent basis over a five-year spell, and in that time has become one of the most loved and respected players to ever pull on a Blues shirt.

Two of the previous three years have seen Dec named in the National League North Team of the Season for his immense contributions that led to play-off campaigns in 22/23 and 24/25.

The former Welsh Under-21 international began his career at Wolves before spells at Southport and Kidderminster Harriers.

21/22 was a stellar campaign down CH1 for the 29-year-old, as he picked up the Players’ Player of the Season, Away Travel Player of the Season and the Golden Boot, which led to a new two-year deal.

More awards came Declan’s way the following year, with a second successive Players’ Player of the Season award and the hotly contested CFU Player of the Season after a superb campaign under the guidance of Calum McIntyre.

Following the departure of George Glendon and the transition of Connell Rawlinson towards a player/coach role, the midfielder made the natural move into the role of club captain, supported by new vice-captain Jack Bainbridge.

Dec was thrilled after he put pen-to-paper: “I’m delighted to extend my stay here again,” he said.

“This club is a second home for me and it’s a place I love coming in to work every day.

“We’ve created some special moments together over the years and hopefully there are still plenty more to come.

“I’ll continue to work as hard as I can to improve myself as well as the others around me.

” A special thanks to the gaffer, all his staff & Jim and the board for allowing me to continue my journey here. Up the Seals!”

Chester FC boss Calum McIntyre was also thrilled to get the deal done: “Dec signing a contract extension is fantastic news,” said Cal.

“He has been a huge part of the progress the club has made in recent years and ensuring he is here until the end of the 2026/27 season is massive for the football club.

“Players as talented as Dec are held to a different standard than any others in the division, his assists, goals and general contributions are among the best of any midfielder at the level.

“He is a big part of the changing room and it is quite right that he has taken on the captaincy.

“When you have players as good as Dec Weeks at your football club, you need to enjoy them.

“I am pleased the Chester supporters will be able to enjoy Dec for a little while longer yet.”

Great to have you staying, Dec!
