Club Captain Declan Weeks speaks after Saturday’s defeat to Bedford Town
Club Captain Declan Weeks has spoken on the Blues’ defeat to Bedford Town and the need to improve ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup First Round test against Cambridge United.
“We have to take responsibility and put it right ourselves,” said Declan.
“It’s on us as players – Look at how many chances we’ve been creating, the coaching staff are getting us into those positions but we have let ourselves down in both boxes.
“It’s not good enough and we have to own up to that.”
Dec noted that the improvement in performances throughout the season needs to be converted into positive results and points on the board.
He said: “Potentially we have had a false sense of security because we have been playing well and expecting it to come good eventually.
“Maybe we have been hiding behind the fact that we got to a play-off final last season and therefore we’ve been thinking that we’ll get there again because we’ve played well.
“We need to remember how hard it was to get there and get back to what we’re good at.”
The 29-year-old also spoke about the need to bounce back quickly, starting on Saturday with a trip to Cambridge.
“We need to just focus on the next game, and try to win the next game, he said.
“We’ve played well in a lot of games and let ourselves down in key moments.
“Next Saturday is an exciting game for everyone, it’s always brilliant when we have a big following with us on the road.
“Hopefully we can give all of you something to cheer about – We’ll go there to give it a right go and see what we can do.”
