CSC Report: Vauxhall Motors 2-1 Chester

A young Chester team exited the Cheshire Senior Cup despite a spirted display in torrid conditions at the vanEupen Arena.

Ex-Chester man Kevin Ellison had the first chance of the contest, as he rose the highest inside the box before glancing a header past the post.

Midfielder Lewis Corbett went close with the Seals’ first meaningful effort of the game, but his drilled strike slid just wide after an inviting cross from Dylan Mottley-Henry, who featured for 45 minutes on his return from injury.

The Motormen had further chances as half-time neared, but both Ismail Sonko and Nathan Corness fired efforts comfortably over the crossbar from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Vauxhall took the lead from the penalty spot just before half-time, as Corness drilled past George Barlow into the bottom corner.

The Seals levelled shortly after the interval, when Henry Briscoe slammed home from close-range after a well-worked short corner routine.

Finlay Heath went close mid-way through the second period but his effort flew over, before Connor Murphy hit a dangerous effort that bounced just in front of Reece Trueman in the home goal who gathered safely.

The young Seals’ resistance was broken with two minutes remaining as the ball fell to Michael Grogan in the Chester box, before the midfielder nodded past Barlow from close-range to secure the Motormen’s progession to the third round.
