Dan Mooney is back!
We are delighted to announce the return of Dan Mooney to Chester FC!
The 25-year-old is back down CH1 on a deal until the end of the season for a second spell, after spending the 2018/19 campaign on loan with the Blues.
Dan will wear the number 29 shirt, and is eligible for this evening’s game against Spennymoor Town.
During his time with the Seals, Dan made 35 appearances and scored six goals, as well as winning our Goal of the Season Award.
From there, Dan signed permanently with Altrincham in 2020 and scored 16 goals in 62 games for the Robins – before being signed by another National League club in Southend United.
A former Wales U21 international, Mooney then returned to Alty for the 2023/24 campaign, before spending the first half of this campaign with newly promoted Boston United.
Speaking to ChesterFC.com, Calum McIntyre said: “Dan needs no introduction – he is a proven National League forward that brings a massive pedigree to the group. He has won a promotion from this league and strengthens the squad at a critical point.
“He hasn’t had the season he has wanted so far and it has been very stop and start for him.
“In our conversations, he has made it abundantly clear that he is desperate to play and produce and perhaps feels he has a point to prove for the rest of the season to show what he is so clearly capable of.
“We have wanted to add “match winners” to the group in recent weeks. We want to have real forward options on the pitch and on the bench that can play key parts in winning games and deliver in crucial moments and Dan has proven he can do that both at this level and the level above.
“He can play as a forward player and as a wide player off either side. He is a great fit for us and has turned down several other offers to join up with us for the rest of the season.
“I’m really excited to work with him and to see what he delivers on the pitch.”
Welcome back, Dan!
