FA CUP PREVIEW | Oldham Athletic vs Chester
The Blues are looking to progress to the FA Cup First Round proper this weekend, visiting National League side Oldham Athletic.
A big test against higher league opposition awaits but Calum McIntyre’s side go there with confidence and the backing of – at the time of writing – more than 1,600 Cestrians.
Last Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to high flying Darlington brought an eight-game unbeaten run to an end, the winning goal scored in fortuitous fashion. One big plus for McIntyre was the ability to welcome back key players in Declan Weeks and Kole Hall to start last weekend following their respective injuries.
Oldham became the first former Premier League team to drop into non-league following their relegation last season to the National League. They sit 18th with just three wins from their opening 13 games, with new Manager David Unsworth replacing John Sheridan last month.
Winners of Fourth Qualifying Round ties get prize money of £9,375, with the losing team fund at £3,125.
Kick off on Saturday afternoon is 3pm. Should the game finish all square, a replay will take place at the Deva Stadium this Tuesday (7.45pm). Admission prices will be as per the previous rounds at home and tickets would be available post match online.
