BREAKING | Stopforth the next to sign up for 2019-20 season

Chester Football Club are delighted to confirm that midfielder Gary Stopforth has signed a new one-year deal at the Swansway Chester Stadium.

The popular midfielder joined from Colne last summer and has been quick to make an impression on the Deva faithful.

Stopforth made 25 appearances, scoring one goal, during 2018/19 campaign. His box-to-box energy was a real highlight for the Blues during the first half of the season.

However a meniscus tear in December forced him to have knee surgery and ruled him out of the remainder of the season.

Nevertheless, the 32-year-old has been working hard on his recovery and will be back fit and fighting ahead of the 2019-20 National League North campaign.

Speaking to ChesterFC.com on this news, Joint Manager Anthony Johnson said: “Gary is 32 going on 19 in every single way of his life!

“His engine is better than any other player we’ve ever seen at non-league level which helps him lead by example in every game.

“The fact he’s not played since last December will be a massive help for him too meaning by the time he starts pre-season his body has had six months complete rest.”

    Congratulations Gary!
