George Glendon joins Radcliffe
Chester FC can confirm that George Glendon has completed a permanent transfer to Radcliffe FC.
Today’s move brings to an end Glendon’s five-a-half-year association with the Blues, making 159 appearances and scoring 24 goals.
The 29-year-old arrived in August 2019 and was a mainstay in the Blues midfield for years to come. After being named Club Captain in 2020, Glendon was named CFU Player of the Season for the 2020/21 campaign.
George missed the entirety of the 2022/23 season due to an ACL injury, but returned last term to make a big impact once again and won the club’s Golden Boot Award.
The midfielder now links up with the Managers who first brought him to CH1, Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson, at fellow National League North side Radcliffe.
As part of the agreement between the clubs, George will not feature when the two sides meet next Tuesday.
Manager Calum McIntyre had this to say: “I am genuinely sad to see George leave the football club.
“Over the years, he has been an important part of the Football Club and I don’t ever feel he truly got the respect those contributions deserve.
“He has played over 150 games for the club, including during the COVID seasons and has captained the club under three successive management teams. He was our leading goalscorer last season and is quite rightly regarded as one of the top midfielders in the division.
“One of the best pieces of advice I was given in football by someone I worked closely with was that “you don’t truly know anyone until you have worked with them”. The way he is perceived by his team-mates, the staff and those around the football club speaks volumes about him.
“I have enjoyed working with him and he has been great for me. I saw how hard he worked to return from his injury and how supportive he was of his team-mates during that season.
“I’m gutted to see him go, but he came to see me on Friday and said he felt now was the time to move on and seek fresh opportunities.
“His game time hasn’t been what he wants it to be over the last two months or so and someone of George’s talent and character means that he wants to play.
“He moves on with everyone at the Football Club’s best wishes for the future both on and off the pitch.”
Thank you for absolutely everything you gave, George. We wish you all the very best for the future.
