MATCH PREVIEW | Altrincham vs Chester

It’s a play-off six pointer this weekend at Moss Lane, as the travelling Blues aim to leapfrog their opponents back into the top seven in the National League North.

Altrincham host Chester FC being just a point ahead of Bern and Jonno’s side. Revenge will be on the cards, after Alty became the first side to win at the Swansway Chester Stadium back in November. A Jordan Hulme double was the difference that day, with Simon Grand on the scoresheet for the Blues.

Revenge would make it a good week for the Blues, as they got their first portion of it on Tuesday night. They overturned an 8-1 August defeat at Blyth with a vital victory at the Deva; Craig Mahon and George Waring sealing a 2-0 win.

George Green continues to serve a ban following an administration error by Cheshire FA. Akwasi Asante is a ’50/50′ possibility to return for the game after missing the last two matches. Long term absentees Gary Stopforth and Matty Hughes remain out.

Altrincham are having a strong season, bouncing on from the momentum of winning the Evo-Stik Premier last season. They stormed to the title on 95 points, with Hulme top scoring with 26 goals. He’s the one to watch up top, returning from suspension and has 14 goals this season.

Phil Parkinson’s side play eye catching football, and put six beyond Curzon Ashton in their last game. Wigan loanee Joe Piggott was on target with a hat-trick – and will challenge Hulme for the number 9 shirt tomorrow.

In recent years the Blues have struggled at Altrincham, but can take heart from the last time the two teams met in the National League North. Chester were 4-2 winners, Ben Mills bagging a brace and excellent strikes from Michael Powell and Matty McGinn sealed the win late on.
