MATCH PREVIEW | Gateshead vs Chester | National League North
Chester will look to continue their unbeaten league start to 2020 this evening, with another tough test against yet another in form side in the National League North.
Gateshead are the next side on the Blues radar, the hosts looking to use games in hand in their ascent towards the play-offs. Mike Williamson’s side have fared well since their demotion from the National League at the end of last season. They currently sit in 11th – three points off the top seven – but with as many as three games in hand on some sides above.
One of their games in hand is tonight against the Blues – after a waterlogged pitch in November had postponed this game originally. Bern and Jonno’s side dominated Darlington on Saturday in a 3-0 victory; moving back up to third above Brackley Town in the process.
Chester last visited Gateshead in September 2017. Following the sacking of Jon McCarthy a week prior, Tom Shaw was in Caretaker charge. Despite a superb fightback from two goals down – with Matty Waters one of the scorers – an own goal saw the Heed claim all three points that night in stoppage time.
But this is a confident Chester side nowadays, who come here yet to concede a league goal this calendar year, and hoping to push closer to York ahead of a crunch clash between the two sides at Bootham Crescent this weekend.
Kick off tonight is 7.45pm!
