MATCH PREVIEW | Southport vs Chester

Festive football marks a hectic schedule for every team – and Chester FC are no different! Tomorrow we make the trip to Southport.

The Blues are in fantastic form this month. Unbeaten in their three matches in December, they visit the Sandgrounders for the third time in just over a month.

In November, a goalless draw was played out at Haig Avenue in the Buildbase FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round. The replay at the Swansway was won 2-0 by Liam Watson’s side – thanks to goals from David Morgan and former Blue Jordan Archer.

Akwasi Asante has scored a fantastic five goals in his three matches for Chester so far. He limped off in the Telford game but following the match Joint Boss Anthony Johnson said he would ‘hopefully be fine’ in an interview with Chester FC TV. Gary Roberts was a late withdrawl from the team on Saturday due to illness, but the Blues will be hoping he has recovered to face one of his former clubs.

Southport spent the early stages of the season in the drop zone, but Chester will now face them with the Merseyside team in their best form of the season. Unbeaten in six in the league, they have the second best form in the division since the start of November.

They have lost twice in Cup competitions this month though. A defeat at home at Solihull Moors in FA Trophy Round One was followed by a loss to Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup Second Round, narrowly missing out on a dream tie with Premier League Spurs.
