Match Report: Alfreton Town (H)

The Seals recorded their first home victory of 2025 as we beat Alfreton Town 2-0 at the Deva Stadium.

It was an utterly dominant display from the hosts, who reduced the opposition to very little chances.

Iwan Murray came agonisingly close to breaching David Robson’s net on the quarter of an hour mark with a rasping effort from distance.

Tom Peers’ desire saw him dispossess Dwanye Wiley on the halfway line before Murray drove through the middle and struck from 20 yards out. The ball whistled just wide and hit the back stanchion.

Heroic defending from Adam Lund then denied Declan Weeks from breaking the deadlock as the midfielder danced through the Alfreton defence.

Kurt Willoughby was then thwarted by Nathan Newall who had scurried back onto his goal-line.

The opening 25 minutes of the second period was uneventful as the visitors defended deep inside their half.

However, the Blues finally broke down the Alfreton resolve through a familiar source.

Weeks’ corner was deep and met by Connell Rawlinson, who’s looping header clipped the post. The Alfreton defence was motionless and Harrison Burke reacted quickest to smash a half-volley past Robson.

It was third consecutive match that the defender had netted in and his ninth of the season.

The Blues continued to control proceedings and came close to doubling their advantage.

Nathan Woodthorpe’s strike was blocked by a teammate before Connor Woods failed to capitalise on a loose ball on his debut.

Jack Bainbridge then burst into the box, but his shot deflected off Lund and into the goalkeeper’s hands.

With ten minutes remaining of the contest, Weeks would produce one of the assists of the season to put the hosts two up.

Our number four spotted the run of Peers and floated an inch-perfect pass from deep into the striker.

Peers controlled the ball before delicately dinking it over the onrushing Robson and into the back of the net in front of the Harry McNally Terrace.

Billy Heath’s side could not conjure up a response as they fell to a fourth successive league defeat.

A third consecutive victory for Calum McIntyre’s side sees us climb into third position, and we now only trail league leaders Kidderminster Harriers by three points.
