MATCH REPORT | FC United 4-1 Chester
Chester FC ended their pre-season schedule with a defeat at Bet Victor Premier Division side FC United this evening at Broadhurst Park.
The hosts were simply the faster side into their stride in the first half, and opened the scoring on ten minutes. Charlie Ennis whipped a free kick up and over the wall, finding the top corner of the net and beating Russ Griffiths.
Five minutes later the Blues were dealt a blow when Akwasi Asante was forced off with what appeared to be an injury, George Waring was his replacement.
Less than 60 seconds later, it was two. Jack Lenenhan was allowed time to stride forward, and the loose ball inside the box fell to Michael Donohue – who poked it over Griffiths and make it two.
Then just after the half hour mark, a third came to the hosts. A quick counter attack ended with the superb Ennis firing into the net from an acute angle.
Chester suddenly sprung into life after the third goal. They got one back on 41 minutes when Matty Hughes found Jamie Morgan in behind the defence who drove forward and sidefooted it in via the inside of the post.
Hughes and then Danny Livesey forced FC keeper Paddy Wharton into good saves before the interval.
The Blues made plenty of changes at the interval, but it was the hosts who had the first chance of the half – Chris Sharp striking the woodwork from distance.
But then Chester twice went close. Matty Waters’ corner wreaked havoc on both occasions, as Waring’s header was cleared off the line before Danny Livesey pounced on a loose ball and clipped the crossbar with a shot.
Nevertheless, just after the hour mark a short corner and cross resulting in Chris Doyle heading home a fourth for the Mancunians.
Waters would strike the post and Brad Jackson would fire over late on., but ultimately it was just the one second half goal in Moston.
