MATCH REPORT | Runcorn Town 0-7 Chester
The Blues advanced in the Cheshire Senior Cup on Wednesday evening, with a thumping win over Runcorn Town.
Danny Elliott shone with four well taken goals, with George Waring bagging a brace and sub Louis Hayes scoring late on.
It took 22 minutes for the Blues to break the deadlock, with Elliott breaking through and striking the underside of the bar – but Waring was on hand to head home from a yard out.
Then it was Elliott’s turn to takeover – with a nine minute hat-trick. First, he slid the ball in from close range after good work on the right by the outstanding Stuart Crilly. He then spun and finished on the edge of the box to fire into the bottom corner – before cooly completing his treble after being set up once again by Crilly.
Three more goals would follow in the second half. The front two combined again as Elliott found Waring to tap home in front of goal – after great work initially to play a through ball by Captain for the evening Gary Stopforth.
Eleven minutes later Elliott got his fourth and Chester’s sixth. He spun the last defender with ease and raced clear, before firing underneath Adam Reid.
The excellent performance was capped off by a seventh in the 89th minute. Jake Hampson, 17 years old and in the academy setup, marked his Chester FC senior debut with an assist. Crossing from the left for another sub – and another youngster in Louis Hayes – to turn and finish into the back of the net.
Job well done by the Blues, who advance in the cup!
