NEWS | Chester FC End of Season Awards Winners 2021/22!

Our End of Season Awards took place in the Blues Bar yesterday evening following the final home game of the 2021/22 season.

    Here’s who scooped the prizes!

Away Travel Player of the Season – Declan Weeks

Barrie Hipkiss revealed that midfielder Declan Weeks had won this award, voted by fans that regularly travel to away games. The midfielder has been in fine form this season, and yesterday scored his ninth goal of the campaign in a 4-0 victory.

Special Recognition Award – Danny Livesey

Defender Danny Livesey was next up to receive his Special Recognition Award – and the Man of the Match champagne – from his best mate and centre back partner Simon Grand. Danny has been a warrior in his four years at the Deva and will be retiring at the end of the season. Thank you for everything, Danny!

Clubperson of the Year – Melissa Grundy

CFU Director Jeff Banks was next up to present Melissa Grundy with the Clubperson of the Year Award. Melissa has taken on the voluntary role of dealing with the contactless payment devices this season, taking ownership of the distribution and collection of the payment devices on a matchday and helping deal with any issues that have cropped up relating to the actual devices. Melissa has also jumped into the turnstiles to help when Barrie was low on numbers and it’s that can do attitude that helps so much on a matchday when things sometimes go wrong. Fully deserved recognition!

Players’ Player of the Season – Declan Weeks

Club Captain George Glendon stepped up to present the next award, as voted on by the first team squad. It was a second trophy of the night for Declan Weeks. The midfielder has made 38 appearances this term, only missing out on three matches due to injury.

Gary Talbot Golden Boot – Marcus Dackers

First Team Coach Iwan Williams presented this award, and we had a two-way tie with Weeks again mentioned – but Marcus Dackers takes the prize having scored his nine goals in just 19 appearances for the Blues. However, with the two deadlocked at the top and Darren Stephenson sitting on eight goals going into our final game of the season, that could all change quickly!

Goal of the Season – Harrison Burke vs Southport

Another close run award, as voted for by our supporters. Stunning strikes from Dackers, Weeks and Matty Waters ranked high – however Harrison Burke was given this award as revealed by CFU Vice-Chair Jim Green. Burke, on his full league debut for the club, smashed home the opener from outside the box in a 5-0 victory over Southport.

CFU Player of the Season – Matty Williams

The final award of the night was presented by the City Fans United Chair Kieron Shiel, and the CFU members voted for defender Matty Williams as their Player of the Season. The 21-year-old has had a fantastic breakthrough season. He’s made 32 appearances so far this term, put in a string of Man of the Match performances, and has also chipped in with five goals.

Thank you to everyone who attended our awards!
