NEWS | Kurt Willoughby joins Oldham Athletic

Chester FC can confirm that forward Kurt Willoughby has joined Oldham Athletic.

Willoughby moves up to the Vanarama National League following a hugely successful 2022/23 season with the Blues.

Kurt arrived last summer from York City after scoring 11 goals for the Minstermen in the year prior, and consistently impressed with his predatory instinct in and around the box, scoring a career high 27 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions for the Blues.

He was named in the National League North Team of the Season, and at our Awards Evening won both the Gary Talbot Golden Boot Award and the Goal of the Season for his stunning strike against Southport.

Manager Calum McIntyre said: “Kurt’s goals last season played a really significant part in achieving our highest league finish in a number of years and his goal return was always likely to attract attention from clubs in higher divisions.

“When Kurt and I spoke before he signed for us last summer, it was clear that Kurt wanted a platform to score goals consistently to showcase himself and that is exactly what has happened over the past ten months.

“This move is an opportunity for Kurt to return to the National League and I wish him all the best for the future given his efforts for us over the previous 12 months.

“Naturally, players come and go and we have shown, as a club, that we can progress players to be successful, win individual accolades and progress them up the pyramid.

“We have been immensely proactive this summer in our recruitment and I am excited to see which of our forwards will most relish the challenge in front of goal.

“I am sure everyone at Chester FC will join me in thanking Kurt for his efforts in a Chester shirt and wishing him all the best for the future.”

    All the best, King Kurt.
