NEWS | MANarama’s September assessment: Chester are in focus – and we see what lies ahead!

League sponsors Vanarama hope you will get involved as MANarama makes a very big return!

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly…

Their management duo promised a better season and it’s so far, so good. Solid awayday wins against AFC Telford United and Curzon Ashton were backed up with a win against Guiseley, ending the month with a draw with Leamington.

What about the others in September?

Chester have done well to remain second with a number of other sides in impressive form around them. Farsley Celtic boasted a perfect run while York City maintained their unbeaten run. Elsewhere, Nicky Eaden was sacked by Kettering Town after a poor start.

    The high point?

Guiseley had people talking with their impressive start, but they were no match for Akwasi Asante who hit a first-half brace to have the result all but wrapped up in the first period.

    Star performer…

Six-goal hero Asante’s form was always going to be key to Chester this season. A double against Guiseley was soon followed by a hattrick at AFC Telford.

    Stat attack:

Only Brackley Town scored more goals in September as the Blues averaged three goals a game in their four outings. Only two clean sheets all season will give their bosses food for thought.

    Crowd pleaser…

While things have been easy on the eye on the playing side of things, things have been looking up off it too. George Glendon reportedly turned down interest from EFL sides to sign a new deal – not bad going!

How do things compare to last September?

An impressive month saw the Blues unbeaten in their six league outings after a disrupted August looked to derail their season before it had even started. Wins against Bradford (Park Avenue), Kidderminster and Boston backed up a solid draw with leaders Chorley.

    What does October look like?

Despite having only three games to look forward to, October could be a turning point. Games with King’s Lynn and York City are a chance to lay the gauntlet down while a trip to Blyth Spartans might not be as easy as it sounds.
