Jake signed for Chester following an initial trial spell in pre-season 2023 after departing Tranmere Rovers at the end of the previous campaign.

Burton first arrived at Prenton Park aged 11 and progressed through Rovers’ Academy. He made his first team debut for the club in a 2–1 defeat to Leicester City in the 2019/20 EFL Trophy and signed his first professional contract in July 2020. He made his EFL debut in October 2020, before scoring four goals in two separate loan spells at Stalybridge Celtic.

Burton joined Marine at the start of last season, scoring twice before being recalled in August 2022 – bagging his first senior goal for Tranmere in a 2-0 victory over Colchester United in his first game back.
