Pre-Season Preview: Chester vs Lancaster City

Chester’s adventure in the Isle of Man concludes on Sunday morning as we face Lancaster City at the Bowl in Douglas.

This fixture comes under 48 hours after our thumping 5-2 win over FC Isle of Man, which featured goals from Tom Peers, who bagged a brace, Declan Weeks, Iwan Murray and Dan Turner.

With such a tight schedule between games, it will be test for Calum McIntyre’s men in terms of recovery and fitness ahead of the National League North campaign.

    The Opposition

The Dolly Blues are an established Northern Premier League club and are coming off the back of a top half finish last term thanks to a strong finish, when they won four out of their last five.

The Lancaster boss is Chris Willcock, who was appointed in January 2024 and came with a wealth of non-league experience, having previously managed Ramsbottom United, Workington AFC and Stalybridge Celtic.

    History

The Dollies last visited the Deva in November 2022 and we came back from a goal down to pick up a 2-1 victory, thanks to a brace from Kurt Willoughby.

Lancaster have played their football at the Giant Axe since the club’s formation in 1911, a ground which has a capacity of 3,513 and sits in the shadows of Lancaster Castle.

Since formation, the highest level that the club has reached was the Conference North for three seasons. between 2004 and 2007, in which two mid-table campaigns were followed by relegation back to the NPL.
