PRE SEASON REPORT | Glossop North End 0-1 Chester

Chester made it three pre-season wins in the space of five days this evening with a narrow victory but dominant performance at Glossop.

Midfielder George Glendon showed tremendous skill and composure to give the Blues a sixth minute lead, and that’s the way the scoreline stayed in a positive showing.

The 25-year-old shimmied his way past a Glossop defender before firing into the bottom corner early on after collecting a pass from Trialist A.

Despite creating a plethora of chances following the opener – the visiting side only went into the break a goal up. Just five minutes after Glendon’s opener, the returning George Waring showed a great first touch inside the box and skill to create an opportunity – but his shot dropped wide via a deflection.

Halfway through the first 45, the Blues had two excellent chances in the space of a minute.

First, Brad Jackson’s fierce drive from distance took a slight deflection and flew inches over the crossbar. From the resulting corner Joel Taylor found the run of Danny Livesey, but the experienced centre back glanced just wide of the far post.

Glendon almost made it a personal brace on the half hour mark when the lively John Johnston picked him out at the back post with a perfect cross, but the unmarked midfielder was off target.

Just prior to the interval, Taylor played a nice give and go on the edge of the box with Lloyd Marsh-Hughes before shooting – but his effort was beaten away by the keeper.

Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley made changes at the break and also on the hour mark, but Chester’s opportunities were limited in the second half despite dominating the ball.

Glossop had a speculative effort on 82 minutes from distance but Louis Gray was alert to make an acrobatic stop and pick up his second successive clean sheet of pre-season.
