PREVIEW | Chester v Dover

Chris Kinnear’s Dover Athletic are the visitors at the Swansway Chester stadium tonight in yet another vital National League fixture.

    Preview by Jaquob Crooke

The Whites make the 288 mile journey on the back of a 1-0 victory over Leyton Orient thanks to Mitchell Pinnock’s first-half strike. The travelling side sit in 7th place and currently occupy the final play-off spot, despite seeing a small drop in form since the start of February which has seen them collect just six points from a possible fifteen.

The reverse fixture saw Dover record a comfortable 4-0 victory in what was to be Tom Shaw’s final game as interim manager of the Blues. Chester battled bravely but Kinnear’s side proved to be ruthless as goals from Pinnock, Giancarlo Gallifuoco, Nortei Nortey and Mitch Brundle sealed all three points for the Whites at The Crabble.

Unfortunately for Marcus Bignot’s side, the postponement of Saturday’s game against Bromley meant there was no opportunity to overcome the disappointment of the 3-2 defeat away to Dagenham & Redbridge.

With the departure of Sam Hornby following his return to parent club Port Vale, new loan signing Will Jaaskelainen faces a battle for the goalkeeper jersey with Liverpool loanee Andy Firth – both keepers vying for their Chester debut. The 19-year-old son of Jussi arrived on Thursday from Crewe Alexandra on a short term youth loan.

    One to watch

    Mitchell Pinnock – Midfielder

The Southend academy graduate has been in arguably the form of his career so far this season.

The 23-year-old Gravesend born winger has been in fine fettle recently, having scored five goals in his last six appearances. Pinnock has also registered eight league assists to his name in the 2017/18 campaign.

This has been a breakthrough season for Pinnock, having cemented his name as an integral part of Kinnear’s squad. The former Maidstone man was excellent in the reverse fixture, with his sumptuous 20-yard-strike being the cherry on the cake.
