PREVIEW | Chester v Maidstone United
The Blues will be looking to end their home league campaign on a high tomorrow – when Maidstone United visit the Swansway Chester Stadium.
Caretaker Manager Calum McIntyre began with a 4-2 defeat away at Boreham Wood last weekend. James Akintunde bagged a brace in a game where the Blues certainly had positive spells against a side fighting for promotion.
With injuries hindering the Blues in key areas, there’s a possibility that some Youth Team players could make their senior debuts. Alex Downes got his first league appearance last Saturday.
With a homegrown Manager in charge, and some homegrown talent on show, there will be plenty to get behind at the Swansway tomorrow.
Maidstone meanwhile sit in 19th place on 50 points – knowing that a draw from their last two games will probably just be enough to secure safety in their second season in the National League.
In the reverse fixture in October, the Stones edged the Blues 1-0 thanks to a 95th minute winner from Alex Finney.
What The (Caretaker) Gaffer Said
One To Watch
Blair Turgott – Winger
A tricky winger, Turgott was responsible for Maidstone’s first victory in seven matches last weekend against Play Off chasing AFC Fylde. A superb solo run from the halfway line saw him score his second goal for the Stones. It’s been a busy season for the dangerous 23-year-old. His move to Maidstone was made permanent in March following an initial loan spell from Boreham Wood. He had joined the Wood from EFL side Stevenage – who had recruited the former West Ham Academy player in the summer. Last season, for his hometown club Bromley, Turgott had bagged 12 goals in 43 appearances.
