PREVIEW | Maidenhead v Chester

Chester travel down south this weekend with a trip down to Berkshire to face Maidenhead United.

Marcus Bignot’s side come up against the Magpies after Tuesday evening’s draw with Hartlepool United. Harry White netted his fourth goal in January and the equaliser for the Blues in response to Michael Woods opener following the interval.

Alan Devonshire’s outfit came close to a result at Prenton Park last time out – with Tranmere edging a 3-2 victory on the Wirral. Sam Barratt and Remy Clerima netted for the visitors, but Micky Mellon’s play off chasers saw the game out to claim all three points.

Maidenhead claimed promotion to non-league’s top tier last season, and have played their home games at York Road consecutively since 1871. Taking this into account, it makes their stadium the “oldest ground used continuously by the same club.”

    History Books

Club Historian Chas Sumner picks out some stats ahead of the game…

    • The Blues are making their first ever visit to Maidenhead United
    • Marcus Bignot’s first game in charge of Chester was a 2-0 win over the Magpies in September.
    • Ryan Astles and Ross Hannah scored for the Blues.

    ONE TO WATCH

    Carl Pentney – Goalkeeper

Born in Colchester, Essex, Pentney started his career in the Leicester City youth department, where he was a regular for the under-18 side as well as the England under-17 team.

It’s fair to say the 28-year-old has done a tour of the non-league game, turning out for over 14 sides during his career so far.

The journeyman was paramount to the Magpies’ promotion campaign from the National League South, and continues to hold a key role in Devonshire’s side.
