Preview: Marine (H)
The Blues are back in action tonight for a clash with Marine under the lights at the Deva Stadium.
Calum McIntyre’s side will be looking to bounce back from our most recent league fixture, a narrow loss to Bedford Town, and Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup defeat, on the road at EFL League Two outfit Cambridge United.
Our last meeting with Marine was a successful one back in April as goals from Harrison Burke and Iwan Murray claimed all three points.
That victory sealed a double over the Mariners last term, following an entertaining 3-2 success on Boxing Day at the Marine Travel Arena.
The Opposition
Marine have started their campaign in promising fashion and find themselves 13th, with a record of 19 points from their opening 14 encounters.
Defeat on the opening day was followed by three-straight victories, followed by a streak of four consecutive defeats.
Their last six outings have proved more fruitful, garnering 10 points in a run that included impressive away wins at Macclesfield, Worksop Town, and Scarborough Athletic.
The Gaffer
Bobby Grant called time on an extensive playing career in the summer to take charge of the club, following Neil Young’s switch into the role of Director of Football.
Grant made over 350 appearances in the EFL, starting with Accrington Stanley in 2006, before spells at Scunthorpe United, Rochdale, Blackpool, Fleetwood Town, Shrewsbury Town, and Oldham Athletic.
The 35-year-old’s most notable stint came at Fleetwood, where he featured on 141 occasions, helping the club retain League One status between 2015-19.
One to Watch
Winger Finlay Sinclair-Smith remains a key cog in Marine’s system, having played a major role in the Mariners’ promotion to this level in the 2023/24 campaign.
The 25-year-old moved to Radcliffe during the summer of 2024 but lasted just five days, before he made the switch back to his former club for their maiden National League North campaign.
Sinclair-Smith started his career at Blackpool, where he made three first-team appearances, followed by permanent moves to Longridge Town, FC United of Manchester, and Bamber Bridge.
The forward has three goals to his name so far this campaign, with two proving crucial in early season successes, firstly a 98th-minute winner against Buxton, before a goal that earned a crucial lead on the road at Merthyr Town.
