Preview: Spennymoor Town (A)

Calum McIntyre’s men are back on the road this weekend for a clash with Spennymoor Town!

The clash in the North-East marks the start of three successive away fixtures for the Blues, who head to Radcliffe on Tuesday night before a trip to King’s Lynn Town on Saturday, 6th December.

Dan Mooney netted a dramatic winner in our most recent meeting with the Moors, as he secured a 1-0 success in the latter stages at the Deva Stadium after being introduced as a substitute.

    The Opposition

Spennymoor’s form has dipped of late after a fantastic start to 25/26.

Their last seven outings have garnered just five points, after Graeme Lee’s side had won seven of their opening 11 fixtures, a run that included a four-game winning streak, thanks to victories over Leamington, Bedford Town, Southport, and Merthyr Town.

This campaign is the Moors’ ninth successive one in the NLN, following back-to-back promotions from the eight tier to the sixth tier between 2015-17.

    The Gaffer

Graeme Lee is nearing the two-year mark as manager of Spennymoor, after his appointment in January 2024.

The 47-year-old has missed out on the play-offs by just a solitary point on both of his previous completed campaign with the club, after ninth-placed finishes in both the 23/24 and 24/25 seasons.

Lee started his coaching career with Middlesbrough, where he held various roles within the academy setup between 2012-21, before his first role in senior management with Hartlepool United.

Middlesbrough born, the former defender featured for the likes of Hartlepool, Sheffield Wednesday, Doncaster Rovers and Bradford City during a distinguished playing career.

    One To Watch

Experienced striker Glen Taylor has continued as one of the National League North’s most potent strikers so far this term, with 12 goals to his name already in 25/26.

The forward has been prolific throughout his 10-year association with the Moors, with over 200 goals for the club and a number of Player of the Year accolades.

Taylor has eight goals to his name in his last nine appearances, a record that has included crucial strikes in wins over Leamington, Bedford Town, Southport, Merthyr Town, and Peterborough Sports.
