READ | Dan Cowan reflects on Curzon defeat

Chester FC defender Dan Cowan spoke candidly last night following a disappointing home defeat to Curzon Ashton.

Being interviewed for Saturday’s issue of The Cestrian Programme, he said this to say: “It was a very disappointing evening.

“There was no fight. Things that we’ve worked on in training weren’t apparent on the pitch and it just didn’t seem to come together very well.

“But we have got to take it on the chin. It’s all about the reaction. We have to focus on Saturday now, learn from Tuesday’s game and use the disappointment we are all feeling to try and put things right.”

Cowan was frank in his assessment and insisted there is nothing to look to as an excuse for the loss.

“There’s no excuses. We could easily blame the covid situation but it is way past that now.

“We need to do the simple things right on the weekend, the fundamentals of football, stuff like concentration. We have to nail the basics down.

“Sometimes to do the easiest things right is the hardest thing. Once we do that, everything else will fall into place.”

A National League North title winner with Stockport County, Dan also reflected on the difference having the fans back compared to being behind closed doors, the opportunity to play under Bern and Jonno and the fight for consistency at this level to be successful.
