Report: Bury FC 3-1 Chester FC
The Blues were defeated in the opening pre-season encounter ahead of 25/26 at Gigg Lane.
A brace for DJ Pedro and a composed finish from Trialist B were enough for Bury after Dylan Mottley-Henry had equalised with a close-range header just after half-time.
Pedro opened the scoring for Bury after he beat Alex Brown to the ball, rounded the goalkeeper and rolled the ball into the empty net.
Our first chance came from a well-delivered Connor Woods corner but Jack Bainbridge headed over the bar.
Bury had a chance to double their lead 10 minutes before half-time but Pedro’s close-range attempt was blocked by Kevin Roberts.
The second half Chester XI didn’t take long to make an impact, as just two minutes after the interval a Declan Weeks corner to the far post would be headed back into the mix by Tom Leak straight into the path of Dylan Motley-Henry who headed home.
The Shakers bounced back in immediate fashion when a Scott Duxbury through ball caught out the Chester defence before Weeks brought down Kai Evans inside the area.
Pedro showed composure from 12 yards and struck his spot kick straight down the middle.
Bury came close to extending their lead when Kieran Glynn made a promising run to the edge of the Chester box before releasing a shot that flew just over the top..
A long clearance by the Bury defence found Trialist B who made no mistake and slotted past Brown to double the hosts’ lead.
Weeks almost grabbed a consolation with the final effort of the contest but his impressive effort crashed back off the bar.
Calum McIntyre’s side are back in action in midweek as we travel to Runcorn Linnets for our second of six pre-season friendlies.
