Report: Colwyn Bay 0-1 Chester FC

A positive pre-season test for Calum McIntyre’s side culminated in a 1-0 victory over Colwyn Bay after a clash that saw a limited goal-mouth action at either end.

Oskar Rosenblatt netted the sole goal on the night with a simple header after a clever cross from Dylan Mottley-Henry.

The first period was a quiet contest for almost its entirety apart from a few ambitious efforts from the hosts.

Louis Robles looked the Seagulls’ main threat and he struck towards goal on a number of occasions, with the most dangerous coming in the sixth minute as an powerful effort rose just above the crossbar.

Lewys Benjamin was comfortable in the Chester net for the remainder of the half as Robles’ other effort was both blocked by experienced defender Kevin Roberts.

Rosenblatt had the Blues’ best chance of the opening period as he snuck in front of his marker and flicked a looping effort that sailed over the top.

It was a much more intense contest after the interval and it didn’t take long for the Seals to make the breakthrough.

Rosenblatt once again peeled off his defender inside the box before he met a dinked cross from Mottley-Henry and headed into the empty net.

The 18-year-old was a bright spark all evening in North Wales and looked the Seals’ most dangerous threat.

Benjamin had to be sharp to keep out a half-volleyed strike by Jamie Cumming from an acute angle just moments after the goal.

Offrande Zanzala was introduced in the second period and had a positive impact, providing an alternative threat with powerful runs in behind.

Young ‘keeper Billy Davies replaced Benjamin with 15 minutes left on the clock and the 21-year-old had to be switched on immediately to deny the Seagulls from close-range.

Davies impressed in the latter stages and made a number of important saves to keep the clean sheet intact.

Another important test completed for the Blues in preparation for 25/26, with all eyes now on this weekend’s trip to Northern Ireland to face Glentoran.
