Runcorn Town vs Chester: Match Preview

Finally, at long last, football is back.

Tonight we face a trip to Runcorn Town for our first Pre-Season game of what promises to be a busy few weeks. A game tonight is followed by away visits to Flint Town tomorrow and then Hyde on Thursday.

    It’s been a busy summer!

It began with the appointment of Tom Shaw as Blues Assistant Manager – on the same day that Tom Crawford, Nathan Brown and James Jones bagged professional contracts (below), Harry White joined the Blues, and Craig Mahon, Ryan Astles and James Akintunde signed new deals.

Players such as Alex Lynch and Matty Waters pledged their futures to the Blues as well – before the signings of Andy Halls and Ross Hannah caught the attention of the fans. The squad continued to be added to with impressive signings; the likes of Paul Turnbull, Lathaniel Rowe-Turner, John McCombe and the return of Kingsley James have made it a successful summer so far!

In terms of departures, some of last seasons squad moved on. Blaine Hudson joined TNS, Kane Richards joined Dover and Johnny Hunt stepped into the EFL to sign for Mansfield.

Perhaps most notably, however, was Academy Graduate Sam Hughes joining Leicester City for an Undisclosed Fee.

    What about Runcorn?

Our opponents tonight are managed by a former member of the Blues backroom staff, Chris Herbert. Town got off to a super start in Pre-Season action on Saturday – winning 10-0 at Blacon. The Blues loaned Academy Graduate Kieran Evans to the North West Counties side last season; as they finished third in the league during the 2016-17 campaign. Runcorn are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year since forming back in 1967!
