Scott Burgess signs new one-year-deal!
Chester FC are delighted to announce that midfielder Scott Burgess has signed a new deal to extend his stay at the Deva Stadium until the summer of 2026.
The 29-year-old initially joined the Blues in January but was forced to sit on the sidelines for the vast majority of the latter stages of 24/25 through injury.
Burgess’ misfortune saw him feature for just five minutes prior to our dominant victory over King’s Lynn Town on the final day of the regular season, a contest that saw the midfielder shine and play a major role in the 3-0 win.
The Warrington-born man has impressed in preparation for 25/26 and has put pen-to-paper on a one-year-deal.
Scott brings a wealth of EFL and National League experience to the squad, with a record of 19 appearances in League One and 51 in League Two.
After coming through the youth setup at Bury and breaking into the first team after several loan spells, the midfielder settled at Port Vale from 2019-22 before stints at Grimsby Town, York City, Kidderminster Harriers and Truro City.
Calum was thrilled to get the deal for Scott over the line: “Scott came in last season and was really impressive in training but saw opportunities limited to get out on the pitch,” he said.
“Everyone around the building can see what a top footballer he is but our form in the second half of the season saw his opportunities limited either side of an injury sustained against Rushall Olympic which kept him out for 6 weeks.
“Anyone that was at the King’s Lynn game at the back end of last season got the chance to see exactly how good a player he is.
“He’s a technician in midfield and we have to make sure our midfield options are balanced. We can’t just be a hard working, physical midfield unit as that limits us with the ball.
“In the same way, we can’t just have lads that want to do everything with the ball at their feet as it imbalances us just as much. We want a variety of midfielders to get the right balance from when we select the team.
“We spoke in the summer around this pre-season being a chance to be on a bit more of a level playing field with his team mates having had a frustrating start to last season.
“He’s done that, he’s smashed all the running and has shown what a technically gifted footballer he is. He’s really popular around the dressing room, has experience of higher levels and promotions and I’m glad we’ve got this sorted.
“There’ll be more signings to come yet. I know what we need and the appetite remains to add at least two more to the group but we aren’t rushing to do this. They have to be right players and the right people for us that mean we get the right squad for the season ahead.
“We owe the supporters the right signings, not the speediest.”
